  • Bauxite - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
Bauxite is defined as a mineral ore composed primarily of aluminum oxides and or hydroxides, along with smaller amounts of iron oxyhydroxides and clay minerals It is specifically classified based on its aluminum content and weight ratios, meeting industrial standards for aluminum production
  • Bauxite - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
Bauxite occurs mainly in tropical and subtropical areas In 2000, Australia was the leading worldwide bauxite producer with a production share of 39%, followed by Guinea (13%), Brazil (10%), and Jamaica (8%) (Table II) Bauxite reserves are estimated to be 23,000 million tons
  • A comparative review of the mineralogical and chemical composition of . . .
Bauxite is the main source of the world's aluminium, supplying 99% of metallic aluminium Thus Bauxites are economic concentrations of aluminum, developed from the weathering of aluminosilicate-rich parent rocks [4] Aluminium in bauxites is known to be precipitated in the form of gibbsite [Al(OH) 3] or amorphous Al-hydroxides
  • Bauxite residue (red mud) treatment: Current situation and promising . . .
Bauxite residue consists of fine-grained sub clay minerals and has a diverse range of chemical and mineral components similar to clay (Atan et al , 2021; Song et al , 2021) The bauxite residue powder exhibits remarkable thermal stability, strong reinforcement, outstanding flame retardancy, and excellent aging resistance

Numerous bauxite-source studies that revealed the three bauxite-bearing layers formed in two distinct periods: the Fe-bearing claystone (Shanxi-type iron) formed during 445–320 Ma and derived from weathered limestone (Fig 11 a; Liu et al , 2013, Liu et al , 2020, Yang et al , 2019, Zhao et al , 2021); while the bauxite ore and bauxitic
  • Role of bauxite residue as a binding material and its effect on . . .
The safe disposal of bauxite residue (BR) poses significant economic challenges due to the large land area required, which increases the overall cost of alumina production As a rough estimate, a 1-million-ton-per-year alumina factory needs 1,000,000 m 2 land every 5 years to accommodate the waste generated during the production process [46]

The yellow cluster (4) is the most interconnected group and is led by the publications “Bauxite residue issues: I Current management, disposal and storage practices” by Graefe, M et al (2011) [10] and “A review of the characterization and revegetation of bauxite residues (Red mud)” by Xue, S et al (2016) [55] This cluster is
  • Organic compounds in the processing of lateritic bauxites to alumina
About 97% of all bauxite mined is used for the production of alumina by the Bayer process (Roskill, 2008) Recent analyses of bauxite deposits have confirmed that the most productive bauxite provinces are located in the present-day tropical zone within ancient Gondwanan platforms (Bogatyrev and Zhukov, 2009, Bogatyrev et al , 2009)
  • Review on treatment and utilization of bauxite residues in China
Bauxite residue (red mud) is a solid waste produced in the process of alumina extraction from bauxite More than 70 million tons of bauxite residue is generated annually Presently, it is stored on land or in the ocean near alumina refineries However, its high alkalinity is a potential pollution to water, land and air of close proximity
