  • Hydroids: a reference to some strategies | Reef2Reef
However the same food also makes Hydroid populations explode Many experts think that one reason you don't want to Nuke your tank to get rid of Hydroids is that they are universally present in virtually every rock, snail, coral, etc we put in our tanks in some hidden unseen form
  • Hydroids - How do I eliminate- They have taken over my tank
I would try to replace the rock slowly, and the rock you cant replace I would try using kalk paste on hydroids Thre are other things you can do like add some filter socks, feed the tank less, don't broadcast feed corals or fish, feed you fish only pellets or wash the frozen mysis shrimp before feeding your tank there are also these limpets that eat hydroids, but I think they are pretty
  • Hydroid Jellyfish | Reef2Reef
I initially thought they were starfish but after doing some digging on the internet I think they’re Hydroid Jellyfish My tank is approx 7-8 weeks old Could that be the reason for them and I’ve read that they appear on newer tanks and disappear when it comes more established
  • Are these hydroid jellies? - Reef2Reef
at first I thought they were some sort of little spiders or mites but after using a macro lens on the glass it doesn’t seem to be a spider (looks more like a snowflake through the macro lens) Now I’m thinking they’re hydroid jellies Sigh lol you can see their size in comparison with some of the copepods next to them
  • Hydroid -baby or just some weird pod? | Reef2Reef
Hydroid medusae (what you have) are a life stage hydroids go through; when we think of colonial hydroids, we typically think of hydroids in their polyp life stage rather than their medusa stage, but many species go through both stages at different times For a brief life cycle overview:
  • Hydroid jellies? Creature ID help appreciated | Reef2Reef
I just found this in a newly established tank and they’re stuck on the glass When I scrape some of them off they’ll dart around as shown in the video They don’t look like the type of hydroids that are dreaded by many reefers nor do they have the same colorarion as the hydroid jellies I’ve seen posted
  • Hydroid ID | Reef2Reef
Colonial hydroids My advice- place snail in a small bowl of tank water and scrub them off with a firm toothbrush and return snail to tank
  • Having a hard time discerning hydroid or feather duster
As the title says I am struggling with determining these are hydroids or feather dusters in my display tank They retract when the tongs come nearby I also have what i believe are feather dusters in my sump on some rock i have in there Any help would be appreciated
  • Are we sure these are colonial hydroids? | Reef2Reef
The first thing you notice is that they're bright green under the right lighting, which makes me think they're at least partially photosynthetic, which I had never heard of for a hydroid Also, they have hard tubes, and when I blow on them with a pipette, they retract into the tube much like a feather duster
  • Hydroids? | Reef2Reef
Just to finish the thread, I have not seen another hydroid since the plucking and puttying over I removed some of the putty and have seen no signs of reappearance from underneath either I would say this appears to be a good method of removal, at least for small populations Dan
